The Burden of the Ballot is a one-act play by Krysta Dennis that explores the mindset of American women involved in the anti-suffrage movement. The play was composed through a reimagining of the letters of Emily Rankin (recording secretary of the anti-suffrage society) of Albany’s Historic Cherry Hill to her college roommate Dorry Scribner, a suffragist. Addressing the suffrage question brings out the hopes and fears of these women living through this important moment in American history. Burden of the Ballot was performed at Historic Cherry Hill, the New York State Museum, the Arkell Museum, the Guilderland Public Library, and alongside Aleda at the Glenville Business and Technology Park.
