In March 2017, Krysta directed a site-specific production of Lillian Hellman’s classic tale of greed and jealousy, The Little Foxes, at Ten Broeck Mansion in Albany NY for NorthEast Theatre Ensemble, utilizing the mansion’s main dining room, hallways, and kitchen. The production focused on certain issues addressed in the play that resonated with a contemporary audience: a societal power structure that serves to exclude women and people of color, the dangers of unchecked capitalism and greed, the control exerted by a powerful few over many. While progress has largely marched forward since the era depicted in The Little Foxes, one would do well to heed the words of the Hubbard’s servant Addie: ‘There are people who eat the earth and eat all the people on it, like in the Bible with the locusts. Then, there are people who stand around and watch them eat it.’
