Yours, for the Oppressed is an original play written in collaboration with student co-authors Hunter Frederick, Heather Frederick, Olivia Waldron, and Philip Kilian. The play was written over the course of summer 2018 as part of Siena’s Living Museum Project, in collaboration with the Underground Railroad History Project. The play, which centers around Albany abolitionists Harriet and Stephen Myers, looks at different perspectives within the abolition movement, and the day-to-day experiences of those involved with the Underground Railroad. The work is based on first-hand accounts, historic sites (the Myers Residence in particular) and the existing body of literature on the subject. The world premiere of the play in summer 2019 will be a collaboration between Siena College and Black Theatre Troupe of Upstate New York, and will be directed by Jean Remy Monnay and produced by Krysta Dennis. Plans are in place to perform the play at the Myers Residence Historic Site in Albany, as well as on campus at Siena College in September. We also plan to offer a touring production of the show to Underground Railroad sites around New York State.
